How to Floss Your Child’s Chompers

Posted .

As you may already know, flossing is extremely important, especially for your child. However, flossing might be a difficult task if you’re not sure how to properly clean your child’s teeth. So, to help you care for your child’s smile on a regular basis, Dr. R. Bruce Howell and our Orem Pediatric Dentistry team are happy to provide you with the following flossing instructions:

-Step 1: Take about 18 inches of floss out of the container. Then, wind most of the floss around your thumb and index finger, leaving a short amount of floss between them. Then, gently press the floss between two teeth. Please make sure you are gentle as you floss. You don’t want to harm or damage the gums.

-Step 2: When you are between two teeth, adjust the floss into a “C” shape and curve it around each tooth. Move the floss up and down gently along the side of the tooth and underneath the gumline.

-Step 3: Make sure you use a new section of floss as you move from tooth to tooth. If you don’t, you might reinsert the plaque and food particles that you removed previously.
