Do you have questions about how to take care of your child’s smile? If so, Dr. R. Bruce Howell and our dental team are here to help you! We have the answers you’re looking for. To start, we would like to give you the answers to frequently asked questions about pediatric dental care in Orem, Utah.

Question No. 1: When should I take my child into the dental office for the first time?
Please bring your child to Orem Pediatric Dentistry around their first birthday or six months after their first tooth emerged from the gums. This appointment will help your child build a positive relationship with our dental team and will allow you to ask any questions you have.

Question No. 2: How should I prepare my child for their first visit?
No matter what you do, you need to talk to your child with positive words and tones. Do not use words or tones that can scare them or make them stressed. The way you talk about their appointment will determine the way they feel in the dental chair.

Question No. 3: When should my child use “real” toothpaste?
It’s best if children waited until they are 2-3 years old to use fluoridated toothpaste. This is encouraged because your child can usually spit around this age. If your child knows to spit the paste out of the mouth, they won’t swallow it, which can help them avoid getting sick.
