Tooth-Friendly Holiday Tips for Kids

Posted .

The holidays are in full swing, and that means treats and sweets abound! While this can be very fun, it can also be detrimental to your child’s oral health if not properly attended to. Follow these tips for a fun AND tooth-healthy holiday!

–Drink Water: There are lots of sugary beverage options, especially around the holidays. Make sure to pack a water bottle for your child to the family party, and serve water at means whenever you can. If you decide to indulge in the kid-friendly holiday punch or hot chocolate, make sure your child accompanies it with a large glass of water.

–Brush Twice a Day: Make sure your child is brushing twice a day, for 2 minutes each time. This can seem like a very long time to a child! It is, however, very important. Try setting a timer, then playing a song or telling a story during those two minutes. This can help make it a fun experience while also giving you a chance to observe that the brushing is actually getting done.

–Brush the Whole Tooth: Make sure your child brushes their whole tooth–the inside, outside, and chewing surfaces. Your child will probably not have the dexterity to do this on their own until they can tie their shoe. Making brushing time into family time can help set an example, as well as make it easy for you to provide assistance.
